Due to a starting altitude of 3,700m, this route is not recommended for inexperienced trekkers that have not trekked at such altitude before or those who require more time to acclimatise at high elevations. The Shira Route itself runs along the Lemosho Route but is distinguishes by starting at the Shira Gate which is located further up Mount Kilimanjaro, past the rainforest zone.
Known as the original Londrossi route, you will register with the Kilimanjaro National Park authorities at the Londrossi Gate before we bring you up to an elevation of 3,700m to start your trek.
Trekking itinerary:
Arrival: From the Airport you will be picked up and taken to the hotel. In the evening you will meet the Lead guide who give you briefing and safety information regarding the trek. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions in this meeting.

On the third day on this trek you will continue to experience the Shira Plateau, the remains of a once active volcanic crater, boasting deep values and the remains of once functioning lava flows. Nowadays, the area on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro is recognised as a World Heritage Site and a beautiful backdrop to your third day of trekking.

Continuing our trek on day four, we will pass the Oehler Ridge rock projection that stretches out from three adjacent glaciers before heading towards a particular large rock formation that has fascinated trekkers for decades – Lava Tower.
Lava Tower is a 300 feet tall reminder of the mountain’s volcanic past, showing an area where lava used to shoot out of the ground, creating these tower like formations of cooled and hardened lava.

Today’s destination is the famous Barranco Wall and you will get to experience to climb this iconic landmark which will involve some scrambling. Please be assured that no technical or previous experience will be required to pass this section of the trek.
