Kilimanjaro RONGAI Route Tour

Itinerary – rongai Route

  • Duration: 6 or 7days
  • Trek Duration: 6 or 7days

Trek overview:

  • Difficulty Level: Beginner to intermediate
  • Chance of successful summit ascent:less likely on 6-day trek with improved chances on 7-day trek
  • Acclimatisation times: longer on 7-day trek
  • Number of fellow trekkers on route: few (least in comparison to the other routes)
Approaching the summit from the north, close to the Kenyan border, the Rongai route is unique in its more gradual ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro boasting with the opportunity to experience some untouched wilderness. Along this trek is not unlikely for you to see some of Africa’s wildlife, for instance, elephants, antelopes and buffalo. Due to its gradual slope, trekkers on this route are more likely to suffer from altitude sickness. We recommend the longer trek duration to ensure better chances for a successful trek to the summit.

The fourth day on the trek will be the day we attempt to reach the summit. One of the most beautiful sights on any trek of Mount Kilimanjaro is the sunrise over Mawenzi and in order to get there in time an early start around mid-night. Such an early start also comes with the advantages that due to low temperatures the ground surface is frozen allowing for a less strenuous climb. Reaching the summit on this day will not be an easy undertaking and requires most of your energy on the trip as you will have to pass some of the steepest section on trek. But let us tell you the effort will be rewarded with amazing views from the summit.

Once you had the chance to take in the impressive views from the summit we will descend to the camp for the night to get some well-deserved rest.
